Nokia Vs. Sony Ericsson - War of the Smartphones

There are many territories that mobile phones fight their wars on. Camera phones, music phones, fashion phones... But the big guns really come out to play when you look at smartphones. Let's check out two of the best in the field, the Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson P1.

Nokia N95 - the king of Nokia (for a bit, anyway)

Arguably one of the most important mobile phones of 2007, the Nokia N95 sold by the bucket-load. And to be honest, it's not hard to see why, as that unique dual-slide body contained a veritable cornucopia of cool features. It was also the first mobile phone in the UK to feature a 5 megapixel camera, a fact that undoubtedly helped Nokia sell thooooooooooooooooooooousands of units. But it wasn't just the camera. If anything, that camera was the just the starting point, and they built the N95 up from there! The Nokia N95 also featured, in what would become a massive selling point, built-in GPS and sat-nav. Not many (if there were even any at all) mobile phones were including that at the time, and the ability to use your phone as a sat-nav... well, it rocked. Since the N95 was built around Symbian Series 60, as well, meaning you could install your own software, and get this awesome Nokia to do things its creators had never even dreamed of. It was, and is, a true smartphone.

Sony Ericsson P1 - the smartphone king
But then, of course, the Nokia has to contend with the Sony Ericsson secret weapon; the P1. Based around a similar Symbian operating system (UIQ in the case of the P1), it brings you all the open-endedness and flexibility of Symbian. However, in my personal experience of both mobile phones, I found the Sony Ericsson P1 to be nicer, and with a quicker operating system, as UIQ is a bit nicer, and a bit more streamlined, while the Nokia offering felt a bit... well, the only word for it is clunky. In all honesty, if it came down to raw specs, the Nokia would win, as the N95 is vastly higher-spec’d than the P1, which only has a 3 megapixel camera and doesn't have GPS. But it's not just about features, the experience of using it is the important thing. The N95 feels clunky, while the Sony Ericsson feels... sleek and poised. If you're trying to decide between these two mobile phones, then the smart choice of smartphone is going to be the awesome Sony Ericsson P1.
